Newcastle manager
Joe Kinnear has today revealed that the club has
failed in their bid to sign
Liverpool defender
Sami Hyypia. The
Finland captain has struggled for
first team football at Liverpool this season with both
Daniel Agger and
Martin Skrtel ahead of him in
Rafa Benitez' plans and a possible
January exit was rumoured, however that won't be happening now.
Kinnear had this to say after Newcastle's
1-1 draw with
Sunderland this afternoon : "I tried for one
centre-half, but got knocked back. Liverpool
weren't prepared to let Hyypia out." The
35-year old has spent nearly
ten years at
Anfield making over
300 appearances for the
Merseyside club in that time.
Personally, I think this would of been a
really good move for both Hyypia and indeed Newcastle. There is no doubt Hyypia is a
quality defender who has
bags of experience in the
Premier League and I feel he would have been a
superb addition to a
struggling Newcastle squad. Stay tuned to

latest transfer news over the next few hours.
